LIV Golf is officially shutting down.
LIV Golf was a professional men’s golf tour backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund that started operating in 2022.
The name ‘LIV’ represented the Roman number for 54. That stood for the 54-hole, three-day tournaments it initially played before it transitioned to a 72-hole format. The tour shook up the golf world by luring top-tier PGA Tour stars with nine-figure contracts.
However, after spending over $5 billion and losing financial backing from the PIF, efforts to launch a restructured LIV 2.0 collapsed. The league has now announced bankruptcy and is winding down operations and liquidating its assets.
