A 39-year-old man riding an electric scooter has died after a collision with a Chicago police vehicle early Thursday in Bridgeport.
At 12:30 a.m., officers were on patrol in a marked police vehicle, traveling north on Princeton Avenue where they "came into contact" with a stand-up electric scooter operated by a 39-year-old male at 32nd Street, police said in a statement.
The scooter operator suffered injuries to his body and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
As the situation developed, a Chicago police officer on the scene implored with a 911 dispatcher, asking when medical help would arrive. "They need to get here ASAP," the officer told the dispatcher.
"Again negative for the ETA,'' the dispatcher responded.
"Allright we have a Hispanic male, 25 to 35, massive head wounds, lots of blood loss right now,'' the officer said.
Both officers in the police vehicle were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by the Major Accidents Investigation Unit.
