COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is joining the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind (CSDB) for a game of goalball.
CSDB says its part of the police department's community relations initiative. CSPD officers will take on CSDB student-athletes who are blind or have low vision. The officers will be blindfolded to help even the playing field.
Goalball is a sport designed for athletes who are blind or have low vision, according to CSDB. Players will wear blindfolds and track a soccer-sized ball with bells via sound, with the goal to throw it into the opposing team's goal.
CSPD says its officers will compete in full gear, including bulletproof vests and duty belts.
The annual match kicks off at 4 p.m. on November 9 in the Main Gym at CSDB's campus at Pikes Peak Avenue and North Hancock Avenue. Organizers say they estimate the match will run around an hour.
